
A. Manimekhalai, MD & CEO Of Union Bank of India, Retires
A. Manimekhalai, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of Union Bank of India, has completed her tenure. Consequently, she ceased to be a Director of the General Insurance Corporation of India as well, effective June 3, 2025.
Manimekhalai, former Executive Director of Canara Bank, has over three decades of experience in the banking sector. She began her career in 1988 as an officer with the erstwhile Vijaya Bank and held various leadership roles, including Branch Head, Regional Head, and functional head of departments at the corporate office. At Canara Bank, she oversaw strategic planning, credit, inspection, marketing, financial inclusion, State Level Lead Bank functions, and the operations of four Regional Rural Banks. She also played a key role in the successful amalgamation of Canara Bank and Syndicate Bank. Manimekhalai has served on the Boards of Canbank Factors Ltd, Canara HSBC OBC Life Insurance, General Insurance Corporation of India, and India Infrastructure Finance Co Ltd. She is currently Chairperson of Union Bank of India (UK) Ltd and Director on the Boards of Union Asset Management Co and India Infrastructure Finance Co Ltd. She has contributed to several government committees focused on financial inclusion, RRB reforms, agriculture finance, and sectoral credit flows. She holds an MBA in marketing from Bangalore University, a diploma in human resource management from NMIMS, and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
