OpenAI Reviews Model Activity On US Government Websites

OpenAI’s agentic AI models accessed publicly available information from US government websites, including the US Census Bureau and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Bloomberg News reported.

According to the report, the models interacted with SEC.gov, Investor.gov and publicly available Census.gov data as part of their activities.

An OpenAI spokesperson said the company is conducting an extensive review of model activity and is notifying organisations when potential impacts to their systems are identified.

The company said its review has mostly found routine research tasks. It added that some activities involved government websites because the models often use them as authoritative sources of public information.
