NLC India Appoints Prasanna Kumar Acharya As CMD

NLC India Limited has appointed Dr. Prasanna Kumar Acharya, formerly Director (Finance), as Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD), effective September 17, 2026.

The appointment was approved by the President of India, as conveyed by the Ministry of Coal, for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Following his appointment, Acharya relinquished his position as Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer. Sanoj Kumar Jha, who was holding additional charge as CMD, handed over the responsibility to Acharya.

Acharya is a seasoned professional with nearly three decades of experience. Prior to assuming charge as CMD, he served as Director (Finance) of NLC India. During his professional career, he has held key positions in organisations including GRIDCO, NTPC and Tata Power. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Honours) from Utkal University, Odisha, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from M.S. Law College, Cuttack, Odisha. He holds a Master of Commerce from Ravenshaw University, Odisha, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of India and an Associate Member of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India. He holds a Doctorate in Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Utkal University, Odisha, and has also undergone a Management Development Programme in Strategic Finance at IIM Lucknow.
