O.P. Bhatt Resigns as Coforge Chairman Following Board Evaluation Disclosure Concerns; Vivek Sharma Named Interim Chairperson
Coforge Limited has announced the resignation of Om Prakash Bhatt (O.P. Bhatt) as Chairman and Independent Director of the company, with effect from September 9, 2026. Bhatt resigned following concerns raised during an internal audit of the Board Evaluation Report (BER) conducted in the second quarter of FY26. The review identified procedural gaps in the handling and presentation of the report, including the incomplete disclosure of the Chairman’s own performance evaluation.
The Board had raised the matter with Bhatt and was reviewing his response when he submitted his resignation.
In his resignation statement, Bhatt said that continuing on the Board while there remained a disagreement regarding his good-faith actions in the Board evaluation process would not be conducive to the effective functioning of the Board.
Bhatt became Chairman of Coforge in 2024. He has also served as Chairman of Tata Steel Limited and as a Board member at ONGC, Hindustan Unilever and Standard Chartered Bank. He began his career with State Bank of India (SBI) as a probationary officer in 1972 and retired as Chairman of SBI in 2011.
The Board has appointed Vivek Sharma, a Non-Executive Independent Director, as Interim Chairperson until January 31, 2027. Bhatt has also stepped down from all company committees with immediate effect.
