Black CFO Representation Declines 25% From 2021 Peak Amid DEI
The number of Black finance chiefs at Fortune 500 and S&P 500 companies fell to 15 this year, down 25% from the 2021 peak, according to a report by Crist Kolder Associates, CFO Dive reported.
The decline comes after the US Supreme Court’s 2023 decision ending affirmative action and the Trump administration’s 2025 executive order targeting diversity, equity and inclusion programmes. Several companies have since reduced or changed their DEI initiatives. Other demographic groups recorded different trends. The number of Asian CFOs fell by one to 61 this year, although their representation has nearly tripled over the past decade. Hispanic and Latino CFOs increased by one to 20, reaching a decade high.
Women accounted for 17% of CFO positions, compared with 16.5% last year and 18.5% in 2023. The technology sector had the highest number of women CFOs, at 22.
The report used US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission diversity classifications.
