Tata Trust Begins Process To Select Natarajan Chandrasekaran’s Successor At Tata Sons

The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT) has passed a resolution to initiate the formation of a selection committee to recommend a successor to Natarajan Chandrasekaran as Chairman of Tata Sons.

The move follows Chandrasekaran’s decision to inform the trust’s Nominee Directors on August 12 that he would not seek reappointment after his current tenure ends on February 20, 2027. The selection committee will recommend a candidate for appointment as the next Chairman of the Tata Sons Board. SDTT said it would support Tata Sons through the leadership transition, and the succession process will be conducted in accordance with the company’s Articles of Association.

SDTT holds about 28% of Tata Sons, making it the largest shareholder, while the Sir Ratan Tata Trust holds about 24%. The Sir Ratan Tata Trust is currently restricted from holding meetings under a directive issued by the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner.

The succession process gives Tata Sons over six (6) months to appoint a new Chairman before Chandrasekaran’s tenure ends.
