Central Government Extends NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh’s Tenure By Six Months
The Central government has extended the tenure of NTPC Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Gurdeep Singh by six months beyond July 31, 2026, according to a government order reviewed by Reuters.
Singh has been the CMD of NTPC Limited since 2016. He began his career with NTPC as an Engineer Trainee in 1987 and has over three decades of experience in the power sector across public and private organisations. Before returning to NTPC, he served as MD of Gujarat State Electricity Company Limited. He has also attended leadership programmes at Oxford, Harvard, Darden, Singapore Civil Services College and ISB Hyderabad. He currently chairs NTPC Green Energy and also heads Damodar Valley Corporation, THDC India Ltd., and NEEPCO. Singh holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra and has completed the Management Education Programme at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
