
European Regulators Intensify Scrutiny Of Big Tech With Antitrust & Digital Probes
European regulators have expanded investigations and enforcement actions against major technology companies across competition, privacy and online safety, targeting firms including Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta Platforms, Microsoft, TikTok, and X.
The latest development came after the Court of Justice of the European Union upheld a 4.1 billion euro antitrust fine against Google over Android. The European Commission is also investigating Google’s use of online content for artificial intelligence (AI). Amazon faces privacy and competition actions in Italy and Germany, while Apple remains under scrutiny under the Digital Markets Act and other competition rules. Meta is being investigated over online safety, advertising practices, and access to WhatsApp. Microsoft is under review for cloud software licensing, while TikTok and X face investigations under the Digital Services Act covering online content, advertising transparency, data access and artificial intelligence.
