OpenAI Appoints Former JioStar CEO Kiran Mani As MD For APAC & Japan

OpenAI has appointed Kiran Mani as Managing Director (MD) for Asia Pacific (APAC) and Japan, expanding its leadership team as it seeks to grow its presence across the region.

Before joining OpenAI, Mani served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JioStar, where he led the formation of the company following the merger of Viacom18 and Star India. He also oversaw digital platforms, including JioHotstar and Cricinfo. Earlier, he held leadership positions at Google, including General Manager for Android and Google Play across APAC and Japan, MD for U.S. Retail, and Head of Sales for India. He has also worked at IBM and Microsoft and co-founded advertising technology startup Fosbury Flop. In his new role, he will focus on expanding OpenAI’s reach and supporting the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies across key markets.
