
Jay Hoag Appointed As Chairman Of Netflix Following Reed Hastings’ Exit
Netflix has appointed Jay Hoag as Chairman of its Board, succeeding Co-Founder Reed Hastings, who has stepped down from the Board after nearly three decades with the company, effective June 4, 2026. Hastings had announced in April that he would leave the company to focus on philanthropy and other interests.
Hoag has been a Member of Netflix’s Board since 1999. Since 1995, he has been a founding General Partner at Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV), where he has focused on investments in technology and growth-stage companies. He also serves on the Boards of Zillow Group and Peloton Interactive. In addition, he is associated with the University of Michigan’s Investment Advisory Committee, the Board of Trustees of Northwestern University, and the Board of Trust at Vanderbilt University. Hoag is an investor and Board Member with nearly three decades of experience in technology, venture capital, and Corporate Governance. He holds an MBA from the University of Michigan and a BA from Northwestern University.
Hastings is an entrepreneur and technology executive best known as the Co-Founder of Netflix, where he led the company’s transformation from a DVD-by-mail service into a global streaming platform. He served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for more than two decades before transitioning to Executive Chairman and later stepping down from the board in 2026. Hastings currently serves as CEO of Powder, a company focused on ski mountain and real estate operations. He is also a Board Member of Bloomberg, Khan Academy, and the Charter School Growth Fund. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Bowdoin College and a Master of Science degree in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from Stanford University. He has also been active in philanthropy, education, and public policy initiatives.
