
Santosh Kumar Mohanty Appointed As Public Interest Director On Governing Board Of Multi-Commodity Exchange Of India
Santosh Kumar Mohanty has been appointed as Public Interest Director (PID) on the Governing Board of Multi-Commodity Exchange of India Limited, with effect from May 28, 2026.
Mohanty is an IRS officer of the 1991 batch and served as a Whole-Time Member at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for five years from June 2018 to June 2023. Before this, he was Executive Director at SEBI on deputation from September 2015 and also worked as Director at the Forward Markets Commission for over two years. At SEBI, he oversaw departments including corporate finance, market regulation, surveillance, investigation, and human resources. He was involved in regulatory reforms covering capital markets, institutional participation, clearing corporation interoperability, ICDR and LODR regulations, Corporate Governance, business responsibility and sustainability reporting (BRSR), social stock exchanges, related party transactions, and an Independent Directors framework. He has also held several positions in the Income Tax Department, including Commissioner of Income Tax.
He holds a BA from Utkal University, an MA in Politics (International Studies) from Jawaharlal Nehru University, an LLB from Mumbai University, and a PG Diploma in Securities Law.
