
Amarendu Prakash Resigns As CMD Of SAIL; Interim Charge Assigned To Krishna Kumar Singh
Amarendu Prakash has resigned as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), effective April 2, 2026, following approval from the steel ministry.
Further, Krishna Kumar Singh, Director (Personnel), has been given additional charge as CMD for a period of three months or until a new appointment is made.
Prakash served as Chairman of SAIL since May 2023. He was appointed Director in charge of Bokaro Steel Plant in 2020, where he led operations and production functions. During his career, he was part of the team involved in SAIL’s business and financial restructuring between 2015 and 2017. He has worked on production planning, process changes, and digital initiatives. His experience includes managing large steel plant operations along with mining activities and overseeing organisational processes across business units. Prakash is a metallurgical engineer from BIT Sindhri, and he joined SAIL in 1991 as a management trainee and rose through roles across plant operations and corporate functions.
Singh joined SAIL in 1987 as a management trainee at Bhilai Steel Plant and worked in operations before moving to human resource functions. Over a career spanning around 35 years, he has held roles across operations, human resource development, vigilance, and administration at the plant and corporate levels. He later served as Executive Director in charge of Personnel and Administration and is currently Director (Personnel). He has worked on performance management, manpower planning, compensation, training, and industrial relations, and has been involved in wage negotiations and HR policy implementation within the company. Singh is an electrical engineer from IIT BHU and holds a postgraduate diploma in human resource management.
