US Indicts Super Micro Computer Co-Founder Over Nvidia Chip Exports

US prosecutors charged company officials, including a Co-Founder, in a case involving the alleged smuggling of Nvidia chips to China in violation of export controls. The charges relate to shipments of servers containing advanced chips routed through a Southeast Asian firm.

According to authorities, the accused include Super Micro Computer Co-Founder Yih-Shyan Liaw, Taiwan-based Manager Ruei-Tsang Chang, and Contractor Ting-Wei Sun. Investigators said the group moved AI technology worth at least USD 2.5 billion, including shipments in 2025. The case is the largest pursued since the US imposed chip export restrictions in 2022. Super Micro has placed two employees on leave, ended ties with one contractor, and said it is cooperating with the investigation.

The stock has declined 82% from its peak and has remained under pressure since late 2025.
