
Sharmila Tagore Steps Down As Independent Director Of Max India
Sharmila Tagore has resigned as Non-Executive Independent Director of Max India Limited due to her increased personal commitments, with effect from February 10, 2026.
Tagore is a senior actress of the Indian film industry who began her career in 1957. Over the years, she has received National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards for her performances. In 1999, the Ministry of Culture and Communications of the Government of France honoured her with the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. In 2013, she was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India (GoI). Apart from her film career, she has been involved in social initiatives in India and abroad. She serves as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador for HIV/AIDS awareness, supports the Venu Eye Institute for the visually impaired, and is a Board Member of the PSB Trust. She also supports socio-cultural and community projects, including communal harmony and Katha, which works for underprivileged women and children.
