NITI Aayog Sets Road Map For Energy Transition & Net Zero Goal
NITI Aayog has released a policy roadmap to guide India’s shift in energy use and emissions reduction across sectors.
NITI Aayog has outlined a plan covering transport, industry, power, minerals, agriculture, buildings, and waste to support India’s target of net zero emissions by 2070. The policy is based on eleven reports prepared over two days that examine developmental pathways aligned to become a developed country by 2047 while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The study uses scenario-based modelling that links economic growth, development priorities, and climate commitments. Ten inter-ministerial working groups studied transition pathways across various sectors, including power, transport, industry, buildings, and agriculture, as well as financing, minerals, research, manufacturing, and social impact.
For the minerals sector, the report proposes steps to secure supply chains and meet demand through domestic production, sourcing from other countries, reforms, and circular use. The Aayog stated that sectors in industry will need electrification, process changes, and efficiency measures to lower emissions.
