
Will Lewis To Step Down As Publisher & CEO Of The Washington Post; Jeff D’Onofrio Named As Acting Publisher & CEO
The Washington Post announced that its Publisher and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), William (Will) Lewis, will step down from his position, following staff layoffs at the newspaper, effective February 2026. The newspaper said its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Jeff D’Onofrio, will take over leadership of the organisation until a successor is named.
Before joining The Washington Post, Lewis served as CEO of Dow Jones & Company and as Publisher of The Wall Street Journal. He joined News Corp in 2010 as Group General Manager in the UK and was appointed Chief Creative Officer in 2013. His career includes senior leadership roles in news and publishing organisations, with responsibilities spanning editorial operations, business management, and digital publishing. He has worked across print and digital media platforms during his career. Lewis holds a degree in politics & economics from Bristol University, has a postgraduate diploma in journalism from City University, and three honorary degrees.
D’Onofrio joined The Washington Post in June 2025. His career includes roles at Google, Tumblr, and Yahoo News. He joined the newspaper in June 2025. At The Washington Post, he oversees finance and business operations. His professional experience covers finance, operations, and corporate strategy across media and digital platforms. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Penn State University and a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Cornell Johnson Graduate School of Management.
