Bob Iger Reportedly To Leave Disney CEO Role Ahead Of 2026 Contract End
Robert Allen (Bob) Iger has told associates that he plans to step down as Disney’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) before his contract expires on December 31, 2026, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The report said Iger intends to reduce his involvement in daily management after overseeing the company through recent challenges. Disney’s Board has said it expects to announce a new CEO in early 2026.
Iger returned to the role of CEO of Disney in November 2022 after previously serving as CEO from 2005 to 2020. He also served as Chairman and CEO from 2012 and as Executive Chairman from 2020 until his 2021 retirement. Iger has led Disney’s transformation with a focus on creative content, global expansion, and growth of its streaming business. During his tenure, he oversaw acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 21st Century Fox, the launch of Disney+, and the opening of Shanghai Disney Resort. Iger began his career at ABC in 1974, holding leadership positions including Chairman of the ABC Group and President of Walt Disney International. He has been recognised globally, appearing on TIME’s 100 Most Influential People list and receiving honours including Honorary Knight Commander of the British Empire and Chevalier de Legion d’Honneur.
