
Russell McGranahan Appointed As General Counsel Of SEC
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Russell McGranahan as its General Counsel, succeeding Jeffrey Finnell, who served in an acting capacity.
McGranahan will oversee legal counsel and provide guidance to the SEC Chairman, Commissioners, and staff across the agency’s regulatory and enforcement activities, the commission said.
McGranahan previously served as Senior Adviser to the SEC Chairman, offering strategic and legal guidance. Before joining the SEC, he was General Counsel at the General Services Administration, acting as the agency’s Chief Legal Officer. He also spent over 9 years as General Counsel at Focus Financial Partners, overseeing legal strategy, and worked as a Managing Director (MD) at BlackRock, handling mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and Corporate Governance matters. He began his career practising corporate and M&A law at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and White & Case.
