Meg O’Neill Appointed As CEO Of BP, Murray Auchincloss Resigns

BP has appointed Meg O’Neill as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective April 1, 2025, marking the first time the company has appointed a CEO from outside its organisation. She will also be the first woman to head a major global oil company. Murray Auchincloss stepped down as CEO.

O’Neill is the CEO of Woodside Energy and has led the company since 2021. Under her leadership, Woodside became the largest energy company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange. She oversaw the acquisition of BHP Petroleum International, expanding Woodside’s oil and gas portfolio and geographic presence. She joined Woodside in 2018 after spending 23 years at Exxon Mobil, where she held technical, operational, and leadership roles across multiple regions. Her career spans upstream operations, strategy, and corporate leadership within the energy sector.
