Sushil K. Roongta & Chandra Iyengar Retire As Independent Directors Of Adani Power
Sushil Kumar Roongta and Chandra Iyengar have completed their respective terms as Independent Directors of Adani Power Limited and, consequently, retired, with effect from November 10, 2025.
Roongta served as Chairman of Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and was the first Chairman of International Coal Ventures (ICVL), a joint venture of five major PSUs. He has held key positions in industry bodies such as FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, and the World Steel Association, and chaired the Board of Governors at IIT Bhubaneswar. He has extensive experience in leading public sector undertakings. Renowned for his expertise in metals, power, and PSU reforms, he led the Planning Commission’s “Roongta Committee” on public sector reforms. His accolades include the SCOPE Award (2007–08) and the IIM-JRD Tata Award (2016) for corporate leadership. Roongta is an electrical engineer from BITS Pilani and holds a postgraduate diploma in business management (international trade) from IIFT, New Delhi. He is also a Fellow of AIMA.
Iyengar is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1973 batch. During her distinguished career, she held key positions in both the Government of Maharashtra and the Government of India, leading departments such as Women & Child Development, Higher & Technical Education, Rural Development, and Health. As Secretary, Women & Child Development, she played a pivotal role in formulating and implementing India’s first state policy for women’s empowerment. She later served as Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Government of Maharashtra, and as Chairperson of the Maharashtra Energy Regulatory Commission (MERC). Iyengar has also been on the Board of Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL), contributing her expertise in governance and public policy.
