EU Plans Delay To AI Act Implementation After Big Tech Pushback

The European Commission is preparing to pause certain aspects of its AI Act as part of a simplification package to be announced on November 19, 2025.

The move follows lobbying from US technology companies and discussions with the Trump administration over the bloc’s digital regulations. The draft proposal, according to the Financial Times, suggests a one-year grace period for firms that breach rules governing high-risk AI systems, giving them more time to comply. Brussels is also considering postponing fines for violations of transparency rules until August 2027. Officials said the proposal remains under discussion within the Commission and with EU member states. The AI Act, which came into force in August 2024, is set to apply fully from August 2026. The Commission said it continues to support the law’s objectives while considering adjustments to its implementation timeline.
