Microsoft Outlines Legal Strategy To Protect Indian Public Sector Data From Foreign Sanctions
Microsoft stated that it is prepared to take legal action to protect data access for India’s public sector and critical infrastructure clients if foreign government sanctions disrupt services.
The company will notify customers of any orders that require service suspension and seek withdrawal through legal channels, including injunctive relief if necessary. This action comes after the temporary suspension of Nayara’s services, which the court later restored. Microsoft has updated its compliance framework to address global regulatory risks and reaffirmed its commitment to India’s data sovereignty. The company also launched a new Customer Council, chaired by Puneet Chandok, to strengthen collaboration with key sectors such as healthcare, energy, and financial services.
