Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel Appointed As Executive Director Of IMF

Urjit Patel, former Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has been appointed as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), effective from the date of assumption of charge. He will succeed K.V. Subramanian, whose term ended six months early on April 30, 2025.

Patel, an economist and the 24th Governor of the RBI, has previously served as Vice President (VP) for Investment Operations at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and as Deputy Governor of the RBI. He began his career at the IMF in 1990 and has also worked with the Ministry of Finance and private sector institutions. He holds degrees from the London School of Economics, Oxford University, and Yale University.
