Senior Military Judge Margaret ‘Meg’ Ryan Appointed As Enforcement Director Of SEC

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has appointed Margaret “Meg” Ryan, currently a Senior Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, as Enforcement Director, effective September 2, 2025.

Ryan succeeds acting Director Sam Waldon, who will return to his role as Chief Counsel for the division.

Ryan joined the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces in 2006, following her nomination by President George W. Bush. Before her judicial service, she was a partner at Wiley Rein & Fielding and Bartlit Beck, with experience in litigation and appellate practice. Earlier, she served as a U.S. Marine Corps officer and judge advocate, with deployments to the Philippines and the Gulf War. She has taught at George Washington University Law School and is a member of the American Law Institute. She resides in Tampa, Florida. Ryan is a graduate of Knox College and the University of Notre Dame Law School, where she finished first in her class. She has clerked for Justice Clarence Thomas and Judge Michael Luttig.
