Meta Suspends Political, Social Ads In EU Over New Rules
Meta has announced it will pause all political, electoral, and social issue ads in the European Union starting October 2025.
The decision follows the introduction of the EU’s Transparency and Targeting of Political Advertising (TTPA) regulation, which Meta says creates operational and legal challenges. The company stated that complying with the new rules could make its ad services ineffective and uncertain for advertisers. Meta emphasised that this decision only applies to the EU, and political discussions can still take place on its platforms without paid promotion. It added that since 2018, it has adopted transparency measures for political ads. The announcement reflects ongoing challenges between digital platforms and regulators over how political content is managed online.
