Elon Musk’s X Faces Complaints In EU Over Use Of Sensitive Data In Ads

Elon Musk’s platform X, formerly Twitter, is under scrutiny after nine civil society organisations filed complaints with the European Commission and France’s media regulator, Arcom.

The complaints claim X’s targeted advertising practices may violate the Digital Services Act (DSA), which prohibits ad targeting based on sensitive data such as religion, race, or sexuality. The groups, including European Digital Rights, Global Witness, and AI Forensics, urged enforcement action. A media report noted that regulators raised concerns not only about X but also about the broader use of sensitive data by major brands and institutions. These practices may also breach Article 9 of the GDPR, which protects special categories of personal information, including political views, religious beliefs, and health-related data.
