EU AI Law Needs Revision, Say Siemens & SAP CEOs

Siemens Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Roland Busch and SAP CEO Christian Klein have called on the European Union (EU) to revise its artificial intelligence (AI) legislation to better support innovation.

Speaking to ‘Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung’ (Germany’s leading national daily newspaper), the executives said the current AI Act hinders progress by imposing overlapping and sometimes conflicting requirements. Busch noted that Europe’s lag in digital innovation is partly due to regulations such as the AI Act and the EU Data Act, which he described as harmful to digital business models. While major tech firms have asked for delays in enforcement, Busch said that the proposal does not go far enough. Both CEOs emphasised the need to reform data rules, noting that access to existing data is more critical than infrastructure for advancing AI in Europe.
