SEBI To Restart Selection Process For Executive Director’s Role As Shikha Gupta Opts Out

Shikha Gupta has declined to take up the role of Executive Director at the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), despite earlier accepting the offer.

Gupta had earlier accepted the offer and was expected to join in March. Sources indicated she later informed the regulator of her decision not to take up the post. This marks a rare case of a selected candidate stepping away from a senior SEBI role. Her appointment had drawn attention due to her past role at Hindustan Unilever (HUL) as Tax Director, where the former SEBI chief’s spouse held a position. The regulator is now likely to restart the selection process. Queries sent to SEBI and Gupta went unanswered. There are currently ten Executive Directors at SEBI, including two from outside.
