Apple Reaches USD 95 Million Settlement Over Siri Privacy Claims

Apple will pay USD 95 million to resolve claims that its Siri voice assistant improperly recorded users’ private conversations and disclosed them to third parties.

The preliminary settlement, filed in federal court in Oakland, California, covers a class period from September 17, 2014, to December 31, 2024. Plaintiffs alleged that Siri’s activation through unintended triggers led to unauthorised recordings, which were later used for advertising purposes. Class members may receive up to USD 20 per Siri-enabled device, including iPhones and Apple Watches. Apple denied any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the lawsuit. Lawyers for the plaintiffs plan to seek USD 28.5 million in fees and USD 1.1 million in expenses from the settlement fund. Approval from the court is pending.
