Top Netflix Executives Depart as Company Introduces Global Affairs Role

Netflix has announced the departure of Dean Garfield, VP of Global Public Policy, and Rachel Whetstone, Chief Communications Officer. Co-CEO Ted Sarandos aims to appoint a Chief Global Affairs Officer to oversee both public policy and communications.

A source familiar with the situation noted that Garfield lacks communications experience, while Whetstone was uninterested in the new role, prompting their exits. Garfield, who joined Netflix in 2019, previously led the Information Technology Industry Council. Whetstone joined in 2018, bringing two decades of experience from roles at Google, Uber, and Facebook (now Meta).
