Godfrey Phillips India Appoints Charu Modi As Director
The Members of Godfrey Phillips India Limited have approved the appointment of Charu Modi as an Executive Director of the company for five years with effect from September 7, 2024.
The Members have also approved the reappointment of Dr. Bina Modi as a Managing Director of the company for five years with effect from November 14, 2024.
Dr. Lalit Bhasin has ceased to be a Director of the company w.e.f. September 6, 2024, on completion of his term approved by the shareholders of the company.
Samir Kumaar Modi has retired by rotation w.e.f. the conclusion of the 87th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the company held on September 6, 2024. Consequently, Modi has also ceased to be an Executive Director of the company with effect from the said date.
Charu Modi is a distinguished entrepreneur from India and a principal promoter of K.K. Modi Group. She is the co-founder and Chancellor of K.K. Modi University. Modi’s academic journey includes studying at Lady Shri Ram College in New Delhi and earning an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management, USA. She is also an alumna of the prestigious Harvard Business School, having completed the President’s Program in Leadership. In recognition of her accomplishments, she received the Rising Star Award from the Thunderbird Alumni Association at the TAA 2004 Distinguished Alumni Awards. Additionally, she has been honoured with the Business Icon Award 2022 by the Hon’ble Governor of Chhattisgarh and with an appreciation certificate from Rajnandgaon Nagar Nigam for her contribution to the Student to Scholar Program.
Bina Modi was appointed the Chairperson of Modi Enterprises—KK Modi Group—in 2019. She is the Chairperson and MD of both these companies, namely Godfrey Phillips India Ltd. (GPI) and Indofil Industries Ltd. She has been awarded the Women of the Decade in Business & Leadership 2018 by the Women Economic Forum and the prestigious Achiever’s Award. She has also featured in ‘India’s Most Powerful Women’, a book by Prem Ahluwalia. In 2020, she received an Award for Excellence in Business from the H.E. President, Abdelfattah El Sisi, President of Egypt, at the Women Economic Forum 2020. She was awarded as ‘Women Transforming India’ by Indo-American Chambers of Commerce (IACC) at the ‘6th Entrepreneur Leadership Awards 2022’. She was conferred with the ‘Women Empowerment Principles Leadership Award, Asia, 2023’ at the 19th edition of the Asian Business and Social Forum Awards and Summit 2023. She was honoured once again by the Indo-American Chambers in 2023 with the prestigious Women’s Empowerment in Leadership’ award. Most recently, she was honoured by the Vice President of India for her Outstanding Contributions to Corporate Social Responsibility.
