Former TRAI chairman RS Sharma Appointed Chairman of Tanla Platform
RS Sharma, former Chairman of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and senior bureaucrat, has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Tanla Platforms Limited, a homegrown communications platform-as-a-service (CPaaS) organisation. After this appointment, the Hyderabad-based company has a total of seven Directors on the firm’s Board, Tanla Platform announced in a regulatory filing.
Sharma has nearly five decades of experience working in the government sector. When he was the Trai Chairman from 2015 to 2020, many initiatives were taken to promote consumer rights and net neutrality. His consumer-centric initiatives at the regulatory body resulted in a massive cut in the mobile voice and data tariffs that supported Digital India and the financial inclusion initiatives of PM Modi. For many years, he has led various government initiatives. As a member of the Empowered Group of the COVID Vaccine Administration (EGVAC), he took responsibility for designing and implementing Co-Win, India’s digital vaccine system. His role as the CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA) included implementing the Ayushman Bharat Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). In his capacity as the first Director General of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), he spearheaded Aadhaar, the country’s unique identification programme.
