Sony Pictures Entertainment promotes Maria Anguelova to Global Head of Corporate Development
Maria Anguelova, with 11 years at Sony Pictures Entertainment, has been promoted to EVP, Global Head of Corporate Development. She takes over from Erik Moreno, who is moving to a broader role as EVP, Growth & New Initiatives for Sony Pictures. The announcement came from Ravi Ahuja, Sony Pictures’ Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development.
Anguelova, previously EVP Corporate Development and Strategy, will now lead global corporate development, M&A strategy, and integration management, reporting to Ahuja. Under Moreno’s leadership, they completed over 40 M&A transactions exceeding $4 billion, including the acquisition of Crunchyroll for $1.2 billion, Silvergate Media (now SPT Kids), and Industrial Media for $350 million.
Moreno, in his new role, will report to Ahuja on SPE strategic initiatives, including activities in India, and to Toshimoto Mitomo, Executive Deputy President and Chief Strategy Officer at Sony Group Corporation in Tokyo, on broader Sony Group growth initiatives. Moreno had been in his recent position since joining Sony in 2018.
Anguelova, who joined Sony in 2012, previously led M&A and corporate strategy for SPE Corporate Development and headed the Sony Pictures Television Business Development group. Before Sony, she had a decade-long career in investment banking, most recently at Houlihan Lokey in Los Angeles. She also sits on multiple boards of companies in TV production, networks, SVOD, and business services.
