Ex-Bank of England Chief Mark Carney to Lead Bloomberg Board

Former Bank of England governor Mark Carney has been appointed as the chairman of a newly formed board of directors at Bloomberg, the US financial information and media company. This move follows a significant management shakeup, which also saw Bloomberg’s head of product, Vlad Kliatchko, being named as the new CEO. The company’s founder, 81-year-old Michael Bloomberg, reportedly made this announcement via an internal email.

Carney, who has collaborated with Bloomberg on climate-focused initiatives in the past, will also retain his position as the chairman of Canadian investment firm Brookfield Asset Management. Meanwhile, Kliatchko’s promotion addresses ongoing speculation about succession planning within the company.

Bloomberg, which was founded by Michael Bloomberg in 1981, stated that more new board members will be appointed shortly, while current members will receive honorary positions. Despite the changes, Michael Bloomberg emphasized that he would remain with the company.

Carney, who previously served as the governor of the Bank of England and the Bank of Canada, is presently a United Nations special envoy on climate action and finance. He assumed the role of Bank of England governor in 2013 and stepped down in 2020. Bloomberg, a former mayor of New York City, briefly pursued the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination before exiting the race after three months.
