In response to conservative pushback against “woke capitalism,” McDonald’s is eliminating “ESG” from certain sections of their website
Amidst criticism from certain conservative policymakers in the US, McDonald’s has quietly removed references to “ESG” (Environmental, Social, and Governance) from sections of its website.
The fast-food chain’s “Purpose & Impact” webpage has undergone changes, with the term “ESG Approach & Progress” becoming “Our Approach & Progress.” Similarly, “Performance & ESG Reporting” has been updated to “Goal Performance & Reporting.” In some instances, “environmental and social issues” have been used instead of the ESG abbreviation.
McDonald’s has not provided comments on these alterations but reaffirmed its commitment to annually reporting progress on social and environmental goals. The move comes amidst a broader debate in the US, where ESG-related proposals have faced opposition from conservatives who criticize such initiatives as part of “woke capitalism.” McDonald’s continues to engage with stakeholders on environmental and social matters, adapting to the evolving external landscape.
