Toyota Scales Back DEI Policies Amid Anti-DEI Push
Toyota has become the latest firm to scale down its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, following a trend started by Tractor Supply and John Deere.
The manufacturer said that it will no longer sponsor LGBTQ+ events, instead focussing on STEM education and workforce preparedness. Toyota has also withdrawn from the Human Rights Campaign’s business Equality Index, as part of a larger business response to conservative activists’ demands. This move follows an anti-DEI campaign spearheaded by activist Robby Starbuck, who highlighted Toyota’s support for LGBTQ+ employees. Companies around the United States have secretly reduced their DEI commitments since 2023, citing increased fears about litigation and public pressure.
