Wipro Elevates 31 employees to Senior Positions following Top-level departures

IT major Wipro has promoted six senior executives to Senior Vice President positions and 25 others to Vice President level.

The promotion followed a string of high-profile departures at the nation’s fourth-ranked software services exporter. Industry observers perceived this move as an attempt to reduce senior-level attrition.

In the last year, many senior executives have departed from Wipro, including CFO Jatin Dalal, Chief Growth Officer Stephanie Trautman, and Head of Digital and Cloud Barath Narayanan.

Sundar Eshwar, an executive at staffing firm Xpheno, noted that vertical movement to retain talent and control attrition has been effective for most enterprises in the sector, which is valued at roughly $254 billion.

Data from Xpheno shows that attrition across Assistant Vice President (AVP), Vice President (VP), and Senior Vice President (SVP) roles in India’s IT and consulting companies was 11% in fiscal 2024, down 4 percentage points from the previous fiscal year.

Wipro confirmed the promotions, stating that they are part of its ongoing commitment to nurturing strong internal leaders. However, analysts observed that the firm has promoted fewer senior employees in the current fiscal year, reflecting its underwhelming performance.

Under the leadership of CEO Thierry Delaporte, Wipro is expected to be the only one among India’s top four IT firms to experience a revenue decline by the end of the fiscal year.

In its previous promotion cycle in January 2023, Wipro elevated a record 73 employees, with 12 to SVP and 61 to VP roles.

Ray Wang, Principal Analyst and Founder of Constellation Research, suggested that the slower pace of promotions amid shifting talent demands could provide Wipro with the capacity to hire more specialised talent later in 2024–2025.

Among those promoted to SVP roles are Wipro’s Chief Delivery Officer Ajit Mahale, healthcare portfolio leader Anuj Kumar, Capco CFO Benjamin Simon, Canada country head Kim Watson, Europe Cloud Sales Head Srinivasa HG, and the Head of its cloud arm’s strategy and execution, Satish Y.
