Walmart elects Chipotle CEO Brian Niccol to Board as Rob Walton Retires

Walmart held its annual shareholders meeting virtually, filling the vacant Board of Directors seat left by Rob Walton. Chipotle CEO and Chairman Brian Niccol was elected to the seat, garnering 99.8% of the votes, more than any other Board member up for re-election. In Walmart’s 2024 proxy statement released in April, the company had advised shareholders to vote for Niccol, which was confirmed on Wednesday.

Rob Walton retired from the Board after over 40 years of service, according to a news release from Walmart. Walton, listed as the 20th-richest person in the world by Forbes, has a net worth of over $83 billion.

The other 10 Board members were also approved, each receiving affirmative votes from over 94% of shareholders.

Steuart Walton, Sam Walton’s grandson, is now the only direct descendant of the founder remaining on the Board after Rob Walton’s retirement.
