Vedanta Appoints Pallavi Bakhru and Prasun Mukherjee as Independent Directors

The Board of Directors of Vedanta Limited has approved the appointment of Pallavi Joshi Bakhru and Prasun Kumar Mukherjee as Independent Directors for two years each, with effect from July 1, 2024, and August 11, 2024, respectively. The said appointments are subject to the approval of the shareholders of the company.

Pallavi Joshi Bakhru, 56, has over 30 years of experience. Her specialties include corporate tax, litigation, including being a part of a team that ran an international arbitration under the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT), tax structuring, and regulatory matters pertaining to FEMA. Bakhru leads the private client service offering at Grant Thornton Bharat and also heads the India-UK Corridor for the firm. She was recognised as one of the Top 10 Women in Tax in India by the International Tax Review. She is a regular speaker at various events hosted by trade bodies, which include CII, FICCI, and TiE, among others. As leader of the UK Corridor at the firm, she leads the Britain Meets India Report, launched annually in partnership with the CII and supported by the UK’s DIT. She is a fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs.

Prasun Kumar Mukherjee, 68, held the position of Executive Director of Sesa Goa, a Vedanta Group company, from 2006 to 2014. He has nearly four decades of experience in finance. Mukherjee was ranked as one of India’s Best Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) by Business Today magazine and as India’s most ‘valuable’ CEO by Business World magazine. He is currently a member of the Managing Committee of the Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industries (GCCI) and a mentor of its Mining and Mining Infrastructure Committee. Presently, he is a member of the Strategy Board of the Global Risk Management Institute (GRMI). He is an associate member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
