Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares to Retire in 2026

Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Carlos Tavares, will retire at the end of his contract in early 2026. This decision comes as the automaker faces challenges in its North American market, where declining sales have impacted its profits.

The company has made several leadership changes. Doug Ostermann, former COO of its China division, will take over as finance chief, while Antonio Filosa, currently CEO of the Jeep brand, will also serve as North America COO.

Tavares, known for his success in making Stellantis highly profitable after the 2021 merger between Fiat-Chrysler and Peugeot maker PSA, has faced recent criticism over rising inventories and profit declines. He acknowledged the need for significant changes to address these challenges and prepare for the future. Stellantis also plans to restructure its supply chain organisation to improve supplier performance as part of its broader efforts to adapt to industry changes.
