A report on AI adoption in Asia-Pacific (AP) has been released by Lenovo, entitled ‘CIO Playbook 2024: It’s all about Smarter AI’. In a Lenovo-commissioned IDC report that surveyed over 900 CIOs globally, including 150+ in India, it revealed that organisations in Asia-Pacific expect to spend 45% more on AI in 2024 than in 2023.
Additionally, AI topped the list of priorities for CIOs last year. In 2024, customer experience and satisfaction have surged two spots to become the second and third top priorities, respectively. In 2023, revenue and profit growth were the top priorities, whereas customer experience and satisfaction were the top two priorities. In the evolving business landscape, this highlights a strategic shift towards cutting-edge innovation and a customer-centric approach.
The report also sheds light on the key trends specific to Indian CIOs in 2024, with a notable emphasis on GenAI investments. Adoption and deployment challenges, such as dependence on third-party support and concerns over job security, are highlighted as top concerns among Indian CIOs. Additionally, a considerable percentage of Asia-Pacific CIOs prefer AI workloads in non-public cloud environments, with a growing recognition of the importance of edge computing. In India, 95% of CIOs see AI as a competitive advantage, with investments mainly in GenAI and machine learning. Adoption challenges include dependence on third-party support and security concerns.
In summary, the report not only provides insights into the current state of AI adoption in AP but also outlines key trends and challenges faced by CIOs across various industries, setting the stage for a more informed and strategic approach to AI implementation in the region.
