Adani Port & SEZ’s elevates CEO Karan Adani To MD

The Board of Directors of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited has approved the elevation of Karan Adani from the post of Whole-Time Director and CEO to the post of Managing Director with effect from January 4, 2024. The Board has also approved the redesignation of Gautam S. Adani, who is currently serving as Chairman and Managing Director, to the post of Executive Chairman with effect from January 4, 2024. Ashwani Gupta has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer with effect from January 4, 2024, and as Whole-Time Director for a period of 3 years, subject to the approval of shareholders. The board has also approved the resignation of Dr. Malay Mahadevia as Director, with effect from January 3, 2024.

Karan Adani has over 14 years of experience throughout various divisions of the company’s operations since 2009. He is responsible for the strategic development of the Adani portfolio entities and overlooks their day-to-day operations. He holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Purdue University.

Gautam S. Adani, the Chairman and Founder of the Adani Group, has more than 33 years of business experience. Under Adani’s leadership, Adani Group has emerged as a global integrated infrastructure player with interest across the resources, logistics, and energy verticals. His journey has been marked by his ambitious and entrepreneurial vision, coupled with great vigour and hard work. This has not only enabled the group to achieve milestones but also resulted in the creation of a robust business model that is contributing towards building sound infrastructure in India.

Ashwani Gupta has three decades of experience and has worked with Nissan Motors as Global Chief Operating Officer in Japan for three years. Gupta’s strategic prowess was the cornerstone in establishing partnerships, unveiling growth avenues, and executing key acquisitions across the globe, primarily in France, Japan, and China. He’s involved in panels like the IRA and COP22. He is a regular speaker at institutions such as Wharton Business School, Harvard Business School, and Kyoto University.
