UBER Chief Financial Officer Nelson Chai is set to leave
According to the Bloomberg report, Chief Financial Officer Nelson Chai intends to resign from the ride-hailing startup named UBER, marking the most important senior departure since the company went public in 2019.
According to report, Chai has conveyed his plans to the Chief Executive Officer Dara Khosrowshahi, though exact future plan and timing are not known yet.
Chai’s forthcoming exit draws to a close an almost five-year tenure defined by substantial accomplishments. After being hired by Khosrowshahi in 2018 to lead Uber through its initial public offering and rebuild the company’s balance sheet, the 58-year-old was tasked with establishing Wall Street discipline in a freewheeling digital corporation that was blowing through startup capital to drive exponential growth. Uber has been operating without a CFO for more than three years prior to Chai’s arrival.
Prior to joining Uber, Chai was a longtime adviser to John Thain, a Wall Street veteran and former CEO of Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Later, Chai worked at the New York Stock Exchange, Merrill Lynch, and CIT Group, where he ran upon Thain again. Chai and Thain at Merrill Lynch helped the bank weather the 2008 financial crisis by selling the company to Bank of America Corp. in what was viewed as a coup to prevent a potential collapse. Following the sale, the two parted ways until reuniting at commercial lender CIT Group.
