Tesla sued for racial bigotry against black workers in US
The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has taken legal action against Tesla. They claim that Tesla broke the law by allowing a lot of racial harassment against its Black employees to happen and by punishing some of them for standing up against it.
The EEOC’s lawsuit alleges that from at least 2015 until the present, African American workers at Tesla’s manufacturing facilities in Fremont, California have consistently faced racial harassment, widespread stereotyping, and unfriendly treatment. They have been subjected to derogatory slurs. “These offensive terms were used casually and openly in highly frequented areas and gathering spots for workers. Additionally, Black employees frequently encountered offensive graffiti, including variations of the N-word, swastikas, threats, and nooses. This graffiti was found on desks, equipment, bathroom stalls, elevators, and even on newly produced vehicles as they came off the assembly line, according to a statement by the EEOC released on Thursday.
EEOC Chair Charlotte A. Burrows emphasized “Every employee deserves to have their civil rights respected, and no worker should endure the kind of shameful racial bigotry our investigation revealed,”. Burrows further emphasized that the lawsuit underscores the principle that no corporation can evade legal accountability, and the EEOC will actively uphold federal civil rights safeguards to ensure that workplaces in the United States are devoid of unlawful harassment and reprisal.
