Tata Motors Appoints Bharat Puri & Reappoints Vedika Bhandarkar as Independent Directors
The Board of Directors of Tata Motors Limited, on May 10, 2024, has decided to appoint Bharat Puri as an Additional Non-Executive Independent Director for 5 years, with effect from May 15, 2024.
The Board of Directors has approved the reappointment of Vedika Bhandarkar as a Non-Executive Independent Director for 5 years, with effect from June 26, 2024.
Both changes are subject to the approval of the shareholders of the company.
Bharat Puri has been the MD of Pidilite Industries since April 2015, having first joined the Board of Pidilite Industries in 2008. Puri’s professional journey began at Asian Paints in 1982, where he started as a sales and marketing executive and eventually rose to the position of Head of Sales and Marketing. In 1998, he transitioned to Cadbury India, serving as Director of Sales and Marketing before being appointed as MD South Asia in 2002, after which he moved to Singapore in 2006, where he was responsible for Strategy, Marketing and Sales for the Asia Pacific region. He has held several senior leadership positions in Sales, Marketing, and general management at both regional and global levels. His exceptional performance culminated in his appointment as the Global President of Chocolates, Gum, and Candy for Mondelez International, Zurich, with worldwide responsibilities for the growth of these categories. He is a graduate in commerce from Punjab University and holds a post-graduate diploma in management (MBA) from IIM, Ahmedabad.
Vedika Bhandarkar has over 35 years of experience in building teams and businesses with Indian and international organisations. Bhandarkar is presently the President and Chief Operating Officer of Water.org. Prior to this, she spent 25 years with different financial institutions. She held various leadership positions at Credit Suisse Securities and J.P. Morgan in India, including Vice Chairman and MD at Credit Suisse Securities (India) and MD and Head of Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan in India. She began her career with ICICI in 1989 and worked there for 8 years, including 5 years at ISec, a joint venture between ICICI and J.P. Morgan. She is a Board member of the Jai Vakeel Foundation. She holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and a B.Sc. from the MS University. She has been an Independent Director of the company since June 26, 2019.
