
RM Rao Amara Recommended By FSIB To Be SBI’s MD
Rama Mohan Rao Amara has been recommended by the Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB) for the position of Managing Director (MD) at the State Bank of India (SBI). SBI currently has four MD positions. With Dinesh Khara’s term ending last week and C. S. Setty stepping into the role of Chairman, one MD position became vacant.
The FSIB conducted interviews with nine candidates before making its recommendation. The final appointment of SBI’s Managing Directors is subject to approval by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee.
Amara is currently the Chief Risk Officer at SBI, holding the rank of Deputy Managing Director. He previously served as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) of SBI Card from January 2021 to July 2023. His other key roles include Chief General Manager at SBI’s Bhopal Circle and Chief General Manager of Financial Control at the SBI Corporate Centre in Mumbai. He began his career with SBI as a probationary officer in 1991 and has held senior positions such as CEO of the Chicago branch and President & CEO of SBI California. An engineering graduate, Amara is also a CFA and FRM charter holder.
