Karnataka Bank Appoints Srikrishnan Hari Hara Sarma as MD & CEO

Private sector, Karnataka Bank appoints Srikrishnan Hari Hara Sarma as Managing Director and CEO. Sarma, who previously served as the head of Jio Payments Bank, has been appointed as an additional director based on the approval received from the Reserve Bank of India.

The appointment is contingent upon shareholder approval at the forthcoming Annual General Meeting or within 3 months of assuming the position, whichever occurs first. With Sarma’s appointment, the bank’s board will now have a total of 11 directors, including 8 independent directors, constituting 73% of the board, and one woman independent director.

With almost forty years of experience in commercial, retail, and transactional banking, along with expertise in technology and payments, Sarma brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the role. He was a part of the founding management team at HDFC Bank Limited for over 9 years, where he played a key role in establishing the bank’s corporate and retail banking, treasury, and capital markets infrastructure business. He later joined Yes Bank before taking on the position of MD and CEO at Jio Payments Bank, where he led the company’s strategic direction and operational commencement.

The appointment of Sarma reflects Karnataka Bank’s focus on strengthening its leadership team and leveraging his extensive experience to drive the bank’s growth and development in the banking industry.
