Elon Musk’s Lawsuit Faces Setback As OpenAI Moves Forward With For-Profit Plan
OpenAI filed a response on Friday in California, asking U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers to reject Musk’s request to stop the company’s conversion to a for-profit structure.
OpenAI released emails and text messages showing that Musk initially supported the idea of a for-profit model before leaving the company. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, later started a rival AI company, xAI. In August, he filed a lawsuit against OpenAI and its Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sam Altman, accusing them of putting profits ahead of the public good. The court is set to hear Musk’s request for an injunction on January 14. In its response, OpenAI denied any claims of a conspiracy to stifle competition in the AI market.
