Dr. Shekhar C. Mande appointed as Independent Director at Tata Steel

Tata Steel Limited announced the appointment of Dr. Shekhar C. Mande as an Additional Director for a term of 5 years, according to an exchange filing made by the company. Additionally, Dr. Mande has been appointed as an Independent Director, set to hold office from June 1, 2023, until May 31, 2028, subject to approval by the company’s shareholders.

Dr. Shekhar C. Mande is a renowned research scientist specialising in structural and computational biology. He currently serves as a distinguished professor at Savitribai Phule Pune University in Pune. Before his current role, Dr. Shekhar C. Mande served as the Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) in the Indian government and Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

With expertise in DNA fingerprinting and diagnostics, Dr. Mande has established himself as one of India’s leading experts in the field. During his tenure as the Director of the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), an autonomous institute of the Department of Biotechnology in India, he played a significant role in launching the Indian Human Microbiome Initiative in the Northeast region of the country.

In 2005, Dr. Shekhar C. Mande was awarded the esteemed Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, acknowledging his notable contributions to the field of science.This award, presented in the field of Biological Sciences, is considered the highest scientific accolade in India. Dr. Mande holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, as well as a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in physics from Nagpur University.
