Amid the green push, professionals rush to arm themselves with ESG skills
With India striving for net-zero emissions by 2070, companies are adopting more stringent environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. As a result, Indian professionals are turning to edtech platforms to advance their knowledge of sustainability and green technology, according to a report in The Economic Times.
Courses covering various aspects of ESG reporting, climate technology, carbon accounting, lifecycle analysis, and more are witnessing significant enrolments, as noted by edtech companies like Terra.do, Emeritus, UpGrad, and Coursera. This trend extends to engineers eager to grasp the technical frameworks employed in the climate technology sector and product managers seeking strategies to reduce the emissions associated with their online products.
While the primary audience comprises early-to-mid-career professionals aiming to transition into sustainability roles, there’s also considerable demand from C-suite executives, who now require a deep understanding of ESG and sustainability to guide responsible decision-making and shape business strategies.
A survey conducted by IBM and Morning Consult revealed that 82% of Indian business leaders plan to acquire green and sustainability tech skills by the end of 2024, highlighting the evolving requirements of the workforce, which now necessitate a blend of technological, green, and multidisciplinary expertise.
